Poultry Welfare

Andrew Arant

As a flock supervisor in our breeder operations, Andrew Arant (dressed in biosecure garb to protect the health of the birds) works with independent producers who supply eggs to our hatcheries, ensuring the health and welfare of our breeder flocks and providing guidance to our producers.

Perdue and independent producers share a belief that it is our responsibility to treat the animals in our care with respect.

Our poultry welfare program combines principles from the National Chicken Council and our own "Best Practices" to create scientifically sound, standards for the humane treatment of poultry.

Audited and documented practices, designated Poultry Welfare Officers for all of our operations, veterinarians specializing in poultry and the guidance of a Poultry Welfare Council (which includes outside experts in animal welfare) ensure the well being of our chickens and turkeys. All of our producers, and all associates who handle live poultry, receive poultry welfare training.
